About the Writer

My name’s Jason Takehome and I was born in the market town of Tregaron, Wales.

I fell in love with surfing when I was just 5 years old and thanks to the huge variety of waves you can catch here I’ve never left Wales!

My Dad was never a strong swimmer as a kid, he’s better now but it took him a long time to overcome his fear of the water which is something that he didn’t want to pass down to me.

Luckily for us, we were just a short drive away from some of the best surfing spots at Bae Caerdigon. My childhood was spent diving into the crisp, fresh water of Cardigan Bay (as it’s known to English tourists) learning how to surf from a series of wonderful instructors and eating far too many cones of chips.

I count myself as blessed to live a stone’s throw away from some of the best surfing spots in the country and although I’ve taken my surfing adventures as far away as South Africa and Australia, I honestly don’t think that any of those experiences can rival the kind of surf that I can get on my front doorstep here in Wales.

Now that I have a family of my own I have the joy of being able to take my own kids out to the beaches that I loved as a child, so that they can learn to surf and hopefully grow to love Wales as much as I did.

On this blog you’ll find ideas and suggestions for how to enjoy the surfing here in Wales, but there’ll also be extra bits and pieces about the other things that Wales has to offer.

This is a wonderful country and you can easily spend a week or so getting lost in the beautiful countryside, well-preserved heritage and (of course) the awesome surf!
